Quetta Faces Surge in Congo Virus Cases: Two Deaths Reported in 24 Hours

Quetta is grappling with a surge in Congo virus cases as two individuals succumbed to the deadly virus within the last 24 hours, according to ARY News. The Health Department confirmed that one of the patients was receiving treatment at Fatima Jinnah Hospital before succumbing to the disease. The recent fatalities have raised the number of Congo virus cases in Balochistan to 30 this year, with 8 deaths reported so far.

New Congo Virus Cases Add to Rising Toll

Two new cases were reported in Quetta, including a 30-year-old man named Rohullah from Hazara Town. He was diagnosed with the virus and immediately shifted to the isolation ward at Fatima Jinnah Hospital. This brings the total number of Congo virus cases in Balochistan to 27. So far, five people have lost their lives to the virus in Quetta alone, highlighting the urgent need for effective control measures.

Preventive Measures and Public Awareness

Health authorities, including the National Institute of Health (NIH), have issued advisories to curb the spread of the virus. The Congo virus is caused by a tick-borne pathogen called Nairovirus, typically transmitted to humans through contact with infected livestock such as cattle, goats, sheep, and hares. Human infections occur via tick bites or exposure to infected blood or tissues during and after the slaughter of animals.

The hospital administration in Quetta is working diligently to isolate affected patients and provide treatment to limit further spread. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, particularly when handling animals, to prevent further transmission of the virus. Public health officials emphasize the importance of early detection and preventive measures to mitigate the growing threat.
