PM Shehbaz Launches Nationwide Monsoon Tree Plantation Drive

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif kicked off a major nationwide monsoon tree plantation drive on Wednesday, marking the beginning of an ambitious environmental initiative. The launch event, held in Islamabad, saw the Prime Minister personally plant a sapling to symbolize the start of the campaign. During his address, PM Shehbaz emphasized the urgency of this initiative, driven by the severe impacts of climate change that have affected Pakistan, particularly during the disastrous year of 2022.

Target of 100 Million Saplings

PM Shehbaz announced a significant target for the plantation drive: planting at least 100 million saplings across Pakistan, including in the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K). This extensive effort aims to combat the adverse effects of climate change, which have increasingly threatened the country’s environment. In addition to addressing climate impacts, the plantation drive is also expected to play a crucial role in reducing air pollution levels across the nation.

Nationwide Call to Action

The Prime Minister has instructed federal and provincial authorities to actively contribute to the success of the drive. He urged all relevant departments and institutions to spread the initiative throughout the country, ensuring that every corner of Pakistan benefits from the increased greenery. PM Shehbaz also called on Pakistani citizens to join the effort, emphasizing that widespread public participation is essential for creating a healthier and more sustainable environment. At the event, he was briefed on specific plantation targets for various regions, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the campaign.
